Encrypted Message Transfer

Encrypted your text and send to a friend, or another device

Add your text into the box below and send it to someone (or one of your other devices), keeping the contents fully encrypted along the way, for free. Only you will be given the passcode, and that's used to unlock the encrypted text, so keep it safe! Then the text will self-destroy as soon as it's been unlocked or after 24 hours.

Your message will stay active for 24 hours, after which it will get automatically destroyed.

I lost my passcode

If you lose your passcode, the data cannot be recovered as this is by design and by default will be destroyed within 24 hours.

What is data encryption?

Data encryption is the process of converting plain text data into a form that is unreadable to anyone who does not have a special key to decrypt it. The process of converting the encrypted text back into plain text is called decryption. It's common practice in the industry to encrypt sensitive and personal data, such as credit card numbers, and passwords. The reason encryption is used is to protect data from unauthorised access whilst it is in transit. This normally occurs from a user's browser to the web server. It's also used to avoid it being tampered with. This includes the data that is stored, to ensure it remains the same when decrypted.

There are various techniques and algorithms that can be used to encrypt data, with some better than others. The chosen algorithm to protect data normally is driven by the type of data that's being protected. Something like a credit card number would have a stronger level of encryption compared to a person's name. Data encryption helps to ensure the integrity, and security of data, whilst in transit and once stored. Whilst in transit, this is helped by the use of an HTTPS connection, end-to-end.

What is HTTPS?

HTTPS or secure HTTP is the protocol used to secure the communication between a person's device (typically a web browser) and a web server. It's a combination of the HTTP protocol and either the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) or Transport Layer Security (TLS). Just as data encryption works, the data that flows between your device and the web server is encrypted and secure. This helps protect the privacy and security of the data that is transferred, which could include things such as login credentials, credit card information, or general personal data. Upon connecting to a website, your browser and web server perform an SSL handshake, which is the process of the encryption and authentication parameters to be used for the duration of the requests.
